Ang 1-7 is a biologically active peptide of the renin-angiotensin system. Ang I-7 binds the Mas receptor, which mediates vasodilation and the antiproliferative actions of the heptapeptide. Endogenous Ang 1-7 is generated by angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE 2) mediated degradation of Ang II. It can also be formed from Ang I or Ang II by other peptidases.
