MS Analysis

At CellMosaic, we analyze molecules using Electrospray Ionization (EI) Mass Spectrometry or Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Time-of-Flight (MALDI-TOF) Mass Spectrometry. We provide MS analysis services for small molecules, peptides, oligos, proteins, antibodies, and their bioconjugates at very competitive rates with high quality data. These services are offered as part of our custom bioconjugation services or for analyzing conjugates made using our Personalized Conjugation Kit (PerKit™). If you have purchased one of our PerKit™ and would like us to analyze the final product, please contact us for a quote.

Electrospray ionization operates based on the process of the emission of ions from a droplet into the gas phase. Unlike conventional electronic ionization or chemical ionization, electrospray ionization requires less energy and is less destructive for the molecules. It is convenient for most classes of compounds but especially for peptides, proteins, nucleotides, sugars, and carbohydrates. There are two general methods for analyzing a sample. In direct infusion mode, samples are dissolved in a suitable solvent and infused directly into the electrospray inlet. The mass spectrometer can also be coupled with a liquid chromatography system. After separating the mixtures, the individual components are then analyzed by mass spectrometry (LC-MS).

MALDI is a laser-based soft ionization method. In a typical MALDI experiment, the sample is first co-crystallized or forms a dried droplet with a matrix. Upon laser excitation, the matrix absorbs the laser energy and transfers the energy to the sample, facilitating its ionization and vaporization. MALDI-TOF analysis provides high sensitivity with a limited sample quantity and is applicable to the analysis of biomolecules.
